6.5. Connections with International Organizations The REMA collaborates with international organizations such as the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM), the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries Association (EFPIA), the European Research Group for Alternatives in Toxicity Testing (ERGATT), the European Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association (COLIPA), the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS), the International Life Science Institute (ILSI), and those scientific organizations active in the study and development of alternative methods. A brief analysis of the extant relations affords well founded hopes that the REMA may be present from the start in an important number of international forums. REMA was established in 1999. Since the establishment in 2002 of the European Consensus Platform for Alternatives (ECOPA), REMA becomes in one of their more active member platforms (http://ecopa.vub.ac.be).
